Sailing the Caribbean: The Wind as Compass
No engine, just wind
Aboard the ILMA it is not speed that counts, but the moment the sails fill and the ship quietly gathers way. For nine nights the Grenadines drift past us – a chain of small green islands set in turquoise water.
Every afternoon we anchor in a new bay, often without a single neighbour in sight. The crew knows the winds, the currents, the hidden reefs – and still leaves plenty of room for silence on board.
